APPLICATION STATUS:

Status as of August 2nd, 2011: LATEST NEWS
The applicant presented the revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on July 2nd. The following changes had been made to the original proposal:

1) The placement of the ducts in the center of the roof had been lowered
2) The amount of the facade to be “cut out” for the ambulance bay on 12th Street was reduced
3) The fire stair opening was redesigned
4) The granite curb base was redesigned in a lighter material
5) The signage was redesigned
6) The ground floor on 13th Street, which has been “straightened” in the original proposal, was redesigned so that it curves

The Commission voted to approve the revised application.

Status as of July 29th, 2011:
The applicant will be presenting the revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission at their public meeting on Tuesday, August 2nd.

Status as of July 26th, 2011:
The applicant presented the proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission at their public hearing on July 26th. Upon reviewing the proposal, most Commissioners agreed on the following:

1) The proposed straightening of the ground floor on the 13th Street side would be innappropriate. While some change could be found acceptable to allow expansion of the internal space, the general shape should remain curved.
2) The proposed signage would be too tall and too generic and should relate better to the building
3) The proposed rooftop mechanicals would be too visible
4) The proposed cut-out of the facade above the ambulance entry on 12th Street would be inappropriate

A few Commissioners also voiced concerns about the choice of black granite for the curb, and questioned whether a different material would relate better to the building.

The Commission did not vote on the application, but rather asked the applicant to make changes based on their comments. The applicant will return to the Commission with a revised proposal at a later date TBD.

The applicant presented the proposal at the Community Board 2 joint Landmarks & Public Aesthetics Committee / St. Vincents Omnibus public hearing at on July 5th. See above for photos. The application will be heard at the Landmarks Preservation Commission on July 12th.

Status as of July 4th, 2011:
This application is scheduled to be shown again at the Community Board 2 joint Landmarks & Public Aesthetics Committee / St. Vincents Omnibus public hearing at on Tuesday, July 5th, 2011, at 6:30 pm in the NYU Silver Building, 32 Waverly Place, Room 208 (as these details are subject to change, please visit the Community Board’s calendar for the most up-to-date information). Public attendance and testimony are welcome. The application will then be heard at the Landmarks Preservation Commission on July 12th.

The applicant presented the proposal to Community Board 2 St. Vincent’s Omnibus Committee on Wednesday, June 8th. The Landmarks Preservation Commission’s hearing on this application has yet to be scheduled.

This application is scheduled to be shown publicly for the first time at the Community Board 2 St. Vincent’s Omnibus Committee public hearing on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium of the Village Community School, 272 W. 10^th Street (as these details are subject to change, please visit the Community Board’s calendar for the most up-to-date information).
