APPLICATION:

A transitional Romanesque Revival/Queen Anne style apartment house, designed by Louis F. Heinecke in 1891. Application is to redesign and rebuild the rear facade, construct a rooftop bulkhead, and install railings.

APPLICATION STATUS:

Status as of July 19th, 2011: LATEST NEWS
The applicant presented the proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on July 19th. Revisions involved expanding the rear wall. The application was approved.

Status as of July 18th, 2011:
The applicant is returning to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday, July 19th, with an application to amend Certificate of Appropriateness 11-6395 (the permit granted on January 11th) for alterations to the rear facade. As this will be a public meeting, no public comment will be allowed (public comment is only allowed at public hearings).

Status as of January 11th, 2011:
The applicant presented the revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission at a public meeting on January 11th. In revising the proposal, the applicant had removed the proposed stucco from the rear and further set back the rooftop addition to make it invisible from 6th Avenue (however, the railing remain visible from 6th Avenue & Waverly Place). The rear windows were also changed to be on the same plane as the rear facade. The application was approved.

Status as of January 10th, 2011:
The applicant is scheduled to present the revised proposal to the Landmarks Preservation Commission at a public meeting tomorrow, January 11th.

Status as of December 7th, 2010:
At the Landmarks Preservation Commission hearing on December 7th, the Commission neither approved nor denied the application. Rather, they asked the applicant to return to the drawing board to redesign the proposed rear facade with a more appropriate material than stucco, a color more harmonious with the rest of the rear donut than white, and so that the window configuration bears some relationship to the interior of the building (floor heights, etc.). The applicant will make these changes and return to the Commission at a public meeting on a date TBD.

Status as of November 29th, 2010:
At the Community Board 2 Landmarks & Public Aesthetics Committee meeting on November 29th, the applicant presented a proposal that will be shown to the Landmarks Preservation Commission on December 7th.
